In Freeport, we celebrate the many languages and cultures that make our community unique. We believe that every student’s language and cultural background is a strength, and we are committed to helping students become confident, successful learners who are bilingual, biliterate, and culturally aware.

Our goal is for all multilingual learners to achieve academic success while developing strong skills in both English and their home language.
We offer a range of programs to support our diverse learners:

  • Dual Language Program (Grades K–6): Native English and Spanish speakers learn together in both languages, building bilingualism, biliteracy, and cross-cultural understanding.
  • English as a New Language (ENL) Program (Grades K–12): Our dedicated ENL teachers provide targeted language support to more than 1,200 multilingual learners across the district.
  • World Language Program (Secondary Level): Students study Spanish, French or Italian through engaging, interactive experiences that connect language, culture, and academic content.

We are proud of our commitment to multilingualism. Each year, graduating seniors earn the prestigious New York State Seal of Biliteracy, demonstrating proficiency in English and at least one additional language. Some students earn the Seal in multiple languages, highlighting the remarkable linguistic talents within our community.
